I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas. :-)
This is just a reminder that the County Photography Contest will be held January 13th - 17th. Entries need to be turned in to Willie no later than 5:00 January 8th. Please follow the entry guidelines as stated in the 2014 State Guidelines.
Email all entries to Willie at wrarnwine@ag.tamu.edu
Remember, this is not a qualifying event. You can still participate at District and State ( for those 14 and over) even if you do not participate at County. However, participation at County can be very beneficial with the judges feedback in determining if you want your photo to move on to District, or use a different photo.
For the Seniors who wish to compete at the State level; we can only send ONE photo per category for the whole county. So first option will be given to those who compete at County/District. Entry deadline for State is April 15th.
There is no charge to compete at County, so feel free to enter a photo for all 15 categories. :-) And remember the most important part is to HAVE FUN while you're learning. :-)

NEW contest: Photo Judging
There is a new Photography Project/contest at State this year; Photo Judging.
This is a contest where the participants learn HOW to judge a photo, therefore improving their own photography skills. I confess, I am still learning about all of this myself. Like I said, it is a new competition that is open to both Intermediate AND Seniors. :-) It will be held June 10th at State Roundup.
A team consists of 4 members from the same county, and individuals may compete if we do not have enough participants to make a team.. I would love to have some of our kids participate, and am willing to put together some workshops if there is enough interest. You can view the information and rules here: http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/files/2013/11/photography_4H_contest_rules_1314.pdf .
Please, let me know if your child would be interested in participating. If there is enough interest I will begin organizing some workshops as early as late January/mid February. :-)

Photography Workshop at Mission Tejas State Park
If you have never been to Mission Tejas State Park you are in for a treat.
Tabitha Patterson, professional photography/owner of Borrowed Moments Photography, will host a workshop for us on October 19th at Mission Tejas State Park. The park opens at 8:00 am and closes at 4:00 pm. We plan to be there all day, but you may come and go as needed.
There is a fee of $2 for anyone age 13 and over, so please bring money for that. All children 12 and under are FREE.
Also, please bring a picnic lunch for your family.
We will go through the park as a group and Tabitha will give tips and pointers to everyone as we go. I'll have lists of the categories for anyone who needs one. Just like with Teaberry Farms we should be able to cover most of the categories on the list.
Parents, again like Teaberry Farms, this is not a "drop off event". At least one parent needs to attend with their children, please. Also, feel free to bring your cameras as well and take advantage of the opportunity.
Please, let me know if you plan to attend this event so we can have an idea of how many will be in attendance.
** IF it should rain on the 19th we will cancel this workshop and try to reschedule at a later date**

I promised Mr. Richards we'd give him a copy of some of the photos we took. I'd like to have them to him by the first week in October, so if you could get them to me by Sept. 30th that would be wonderful. :-)
Thank you, and I'll let you know as soon as I have info on the next one. :-)

" On Location" Photography Workshop Sept. 7th
Mr. Richards, at Teaberry Farms, has graciously agreed to let us come to the Chapel at Teaberry Farms to take pictures FOR FREE. :-)
If you've never been there, believe me when I tell you it is beautiful! This would be a great opportunity to practice taking pictures of most of the categories in the Photography Project.
Mrs. Tabitha Patterson, owner of Borrowed Moments Photography will be on hand to give tips and advice to the participants. Just bring a camera and come join us! Parents; feel free to bring a camera for yourself and come have some fun. :-)
We will meet at Teaberry Farms on September 7th at 9:00 am. We'll be there about an hour or so. If you would like to carpool that would be great! The less cars we have the less chance of getting "background clutter" in the photos. :-)
DIRECTIONS: The address is 2525 O'Keefe Road Jacksonville, Texas 75766. When coming up 69 N from Rusk, turn right onto Loop 456. Follow it around until you see a gas station on your right. ( If you get to Hwy 79 you've gone too far.) Turn right at the gas station onto O'Keefe Rd. The farm will be on your right. Drive slow, because the sign is set back and you can easily miss it. If you get to where the road curves to the right, turn around because you've missed it. We'll meet at 9:00 am on Sept. 7th. If you'd like my cell # just in case you get lost ( like I did the first 3 times I tried to find it LOL...) e-mail me and I'll be happy to send it to you privately.

2014 Photography Guidelines
Here are the guidelines for the 2013-2014 Photography Project. There have been some changes, so please read them carefully. :-) Some great resources have also been added to the website this year, so I am including the links to those in this post.
WHAT IS THE PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT?
The
photography project encourages self-expression and teaches proper use
of photographic equipment and developing processes. photography provides opportunities for career exploration and promoting 4-H.
Photography is also one of the less expensive projects in 4-H, and it's A LOT of fun. Grab your friends and lets all learn how to take some fantastic photos!
I am also working on a "location workshop" for early September. More info on that will be coming very soon.

STATE 4-H PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP AND PHOTOGRAPHY JUDGING CONTEST!
This is from the This months Texas 4-H Standard Newsletter. More information is coming soon.
STATE 4-H PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP AND PHOTOGRAPHY JUDGING CONTEST!
Micah Holcombe, mlholcombe@ag.tamu.edu
New Topics! New Contest! You wanted it – you got it! Based
on feedback from previous workshops, we’ve shaken things up a bit by providing
different instruction and a brand new contest. Make plans to attend this two
day workshop on July 20- 21st in Bell County. This year’s photography workshop
will concentrate on careers in photography such as portrait, internet/design,
commercial, newspaper, outdoor/magazine, sports, forensic, wedding, and video
production. You will have a chance to select several of these careers along
with a basic and intermediate/advanced level class.
We will also be doing a state-wide community service
activity, making photo note cards for your favorite charity or church. Bring
5-10 of your own photos (3x5 or 4x6 size) and we will provide the instructions
and mounting materials. You will have a chance to either donate your photos to
Bell County for distribution or take your photos with you to donate in your local
community. Assisted living facilities, Veteran’s Homes, Nursing Homes, and churches
especially love receiving beautiful cards made by talented 4-H photographers!
Ever wonder how the judges decide what photo is best? Come
to the workshop and learn what judges look for, then practice being one
yourself. After instruction and practice, there will be a State 4-H Photography
Judging Competition for Junior (8-13) and Senior (14-18) age categories.
Advance registration will be required to participate in the competition so be
watching future newsletters for more information.
Dance! Dance! Dance! We’ll wind the first day up with a
dance from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Come as you are and join the fun as we kick up our
heels to some good music! Sunday morning caps the event off with hands-on
practice at a local farm. Costumed role players, antique equipment, animals, and
various activities will offer a large assortment of photography opportunities.
We will wrap up by 11:00 to allow for travel, church or
other family activities. Registration information will be coming soon and can
be found by going to:

The
County Photography Contest Deadline was originally set for 5PM tomorow;
however, Mr. Arnwine is extending the photography deadline until
MIDNIGHT TOMORROW (January 9, 2013)
to give everyone one more evening to submit their photos via email to
wrarnwine@ag.tamu.edu.
I accidentally linked to last year's guidelines in my last update. Here is the link to THIS year's guidelines.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE CHANGE IN SIZE OF THE PHOTO TO BE SUBMITTED.
