STATE 4-H PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP AND PHOTOGRAPHY JUDGING CONTEST!

This is from the This months Texas 4-H Standard Newsletter.   More information is coming soon.

STATE 4-H PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP AND PHOTOGRAPHY JUDGING CONTEST!

Micah Holcombe, mlholcombe@ag.tamu.edu

New Topics! New Contest! You wanted it – you got it! Based on feedback from previous workshops, we’ve shaken things up a bit by providing different instruction and a brand new contest. Make plans to attend this two day workshop on July 20- 21st in Bell County. This year’s photography workshop will concentrate on careers in photography such as portrait, internet/design, commercial, newspaper, outdoor/magazine, sports, forensic, wedding, and video production. You will have a chance to select several of these careers along with a basic and intermediate/advanced level class.

We will also be doing a state-wide community service activity, making photo note cards for your favorite charity or church. Bring 5-10 of your own photos (3x5 or 4x6 size) and we will provide the instructions and mounting materials. You will have a chance to either donate your photos to Bell County for distribution or take your photos with you to donate in your local community. Assisted living facilities, Veteran’s Homes, Nursing Homes, and churches especially love receiving beautiful cards made by talented 4-H photographers!

Ever wonder how the judges decide what photo is best? Come to the workshop and learn what judges look for, then practice being one yourself. After instruction and practice, there will be a State 4-H Photography Judging Competition for Junior (8-13) and Senior (14-18) age categories. Advance registration will be required to participate in the competition so be watching future newsletters for more information.

Dance! Dance! Dance! We’ll wind the first day up with a dance from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Come as you are and join the fun as we kick up our heels to some good music! Sunday morning caps the event off with hands-on practice at a local farm. Costumed role players, antique equipment, animals, and various activities will offer a large assortment of photography opportunities.
We will wrap up by 11:00 to allow for travel, church or other family activities. Registration information will be coming soon and can be found by going to:

State Deadline April 15th

Just a reminder; the deadline to enter the state photography competition is April 15th.  Any Senior 4-H member may enter, however we can only submit ONE photo in each category for the entire county, so please check with me to make sure the category you want to enter has not already been taken.  We don't want to disqualify anyone by accidentally submitting more than one photo to the same category.  For more info please check the previous  blog entry.  :-)  http://cherokeephotography.blogspot.com/2013/03/seniors-state-photography-project.html

Seniors - State Photography Project

Seniors ( age 14 and up) - It is not too late to enter the state 4-H Photography contest.  Even if you did not participate at the county or district level.

However, we are only allowed to enter ONE photo per category for the entire county.  That means only ONE member from all of Cherokee County may enter a photo in particular category.  If we enter more than one all entries will be disqualified.

To keep this from happening, please contact me if you would like to enter a photo, and let me know the category so I can make sure it is available.

Photos that were taken January 2012 - April 15, 2013 are eligible.  Be sure to check out the rules/guidelines for category descriptions and submission requirements. The entry deadline is April 15th. There is a fee of $10 for each entry.
